Our Ethos

Golden retriever health & Care

Fundamentally, I believe any animal with whom you chose to share your heart and home, deserves the very best you can give with regards health and well-being. This should encompass both physical aspects and emotional implications.

Prioritising health & a natural ethos

Over the last couple of decades, many of my inherent, long held beliefs, have been challenged to the point where the husbandry of those now in my care are non-vaccinated, chemical free, raw feed and treated where possible with a holistic and homeopathic approach.

It was a steep learning curve and at times a leap of faith, but their glowing health and minimal veterinary intervention is testament to this philosophy. I expand on this approach and concept under the puppy care section below and my “Occasional Dog Blog” where you will also find much supporting evidence that validates a breed appropriate diet and the benefits of non-spay and neuter.  In essence, a strong, robust and resilient immune system will pay dividends regarding their daily health and longevity.

Reputable breeding

Puppy Care & Vetting

We only breed very occasionally, when I wish to keep a puppy and add to my crew.  All potential new puppy guardians can expect to be “vetted strenuously” and I encourage an equally in-depth interview of myself and philosophies. Finding their perfect “forever home” is paramount. All reputable breeders invest a huge amount of time and effort both emotionally and physically and it is readily accepted that breeding is not for the fainthearted.

It is a commitment to providing these precious wee bundles the very best, “Rolls-Royce” start in life, the essential building blocks to well adjusted, confident, exemplary examples of the breed, who will go on to enrich the lives of their new families and friends.

My blueprint for an estimable Calacarey puppy owner would be someone or family who have already known the great joy (and heartache) of sharing their lives with one of these beautiful creatures.

  • Someone who is aware of their perfect imperfections, their effervescence, and joie de vivre, love, loyalty, and gentle biddability.

  • Someone who I have no need to educate on their love of mud and water and huge propensity to “assist” in the garden.

  • Someone who cares not a jot about pawprints and hair and drool and sloppy kisses.

  • Someone who is willing to listen to my advice regarding my ethos on vaccinations, feeding, homeopathy and chemical free husbandry.

  • Someone who is at home all day to share any angst or foibles and simply “be” in the moment of their daily lives.

However, naturally I am happy to encourage and share all my knowledge to a complete novice who considers the only “stupid” question, is the one they haven’t asked.
