My little fire cracker Tamar “Toots” was bred by my good friend Elaine Bond of the Trebell affix and joined us during lockdown at the beginning of the new year. Bless her pretty fluffy backside, she was given a far from warm welcome from my Calacarey quartet who were less than impressed, often indifferent, or as in Roxy’s case, about to tie her knotted handkerchief and leave home! However, this bold, confident, self-assured pup was determined to win them over and indeed had everyone eating out of her pretty little paws in no time at all.
More About Tamar
Tamar and Roxy became inseparable and fierce competition developed anywhere near water or indeed joint water retrieves. She has a remarkable lineage with no less than 34 champions in her five generation pedigree – it is a veritable sea of “red ink” with many of the most illustrious dogs here in the UK and Europe behind her.
She was a giddy and playful youngster but any titbit or biscuit was guaranteed to focus her attention and indeed during her first year, I am sure she thought her name was actually “What’s this!” We mated her to Fin (Creekside Cornish Scrumpy) as I had been so thrilled with his “stamp” on Purdie’s litter.
She was young at only two and a quarter-years, but Fin was a veritable old gentleman approaching eleven and I didn’t want to tempt fate or run the risk of his not being available at her next season. Any apprehension as to how this “teenager” would approach motherhood was instantly allayed by her total commitment, her unwavering natural maternal instincts and the love, care and attention she gave her nine bonny pups around the clock was exemplary. She was simply the best and from this clutch of four bonny boys and five fabulous sisters, we kept Layla who is a full half sister to Roxy.
